The Adventure Junkies

We hire writers on an ongoing basis to help us grow the hiking, scuba diving, mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing and snow sports sections. These are freelance writing gigs and you should be a full-time professional freelancer with time to dedicate to pieces.

The ideal writer is someone who has the ability to use their personal experience & research to clearly explain how to choose gear and get started (actionable tips & advice) in his or her given sport to a complete beginner.

Writers are assigned topics according to our content strategy and must be able to closely follow our guidelines. Writers work as independent contractors on a freelance basis and paid a fixed rate.

Rattle

While we’re always open to regular submissions of all forms of poetry and artwork, every issue of Rattle includes a special tribute dedicated to some social, vocational, or stylistic group.

Poetry: This issue will feature Immigrant Poets. Please explain how this applies to you and affects your poetry, if at all, in your contributor note. We no longer publish prose essays, but instead use these contributor notes as micro-essays at the back of each issue. The poems themselves don’t have to be about immigration—we want to celebrate and explore the range of work that immigrant poets are producing. If using Submittable, please be sure to select the Immigrant Poets category.

Artwork: We still need cover art for this issue. To submit, use the artwork category on Submittable. Rarely we publish internal black and white art that relates to the theme—though usually, we’d rather use the space for as much poetry as possible.

Deadline: October 15, 2017

Payment for print publication (from us to you in exchange for your work) is $100 and a complimentary one-year subscription to the magazine, including the issue in which your work appears. Contributors also may pre-order additional copies of their issue at our cost to produce. Payment for online-only work is $50.

Rhonda Parrish

Tyche Books and Rhonda Parrish are proud to announce a brand new elemental anthology series, and to kick things off they are opening to submissions for the first anthology in the series—Fire: Demons, Dragons and Djinns.

Associated with passion, power, transformation and purification, fire is a ferocious element with an unquenchable appetite. We explore the many facets of this beautifully furious element and the creatures associated with it so Fire: Demons, Dragons and Djinns will be filled with stories about every kind of fiery creature you can imagine, not only those listed in the subtitle. We’re looking for phoenixes, ifrits, salamanders, lava monsters and fiery beasts no one has ever heard of before. And of course, this anthology will not be complete without at least one demon, dragon, and djinn!

Rights and compensation: Payment: Flat fee of $50.00 CAD and a paperback copy of the anthology. In exchange, we are seeking first world rights in English and exclusive right to publish in print and electronic format for six months after publication date, after which publisher retains nonexclusive right to continue to publish for the life of the anthology.

Open Submission period: June 1, 2017 – August 15, 2017
